Mom always said "don't judge a book by its cover" - and that adage has never been more true than when it comes to Designer's Circus.
I originally heard about this place when some suspiciously spelp-y reviews popped up a few months back. I found the place since it was close by my old digs and recoiled in horror at the window displays (they reminded me of how my now super fit, cute, and stylish mamma had styled herself during a short lived "dowdy phase."). Needless to say I decided I would stop by if only for laughs...
Yesterday Himself and I were wandering through the old neighborhood wasting time before our appointment at Body Mechanics. I remembered Designer's Circus and suggested we take a peek in.
Well, let me tell you - this place is hopping! Sure, most of the clientele are a bit older, but you know what? Most of the ladies shopping had STYLE and a lot of sass to them to. The staff were very friendly - which I liked - especially because I was looking especially scrubby after my hectic move. One gal nicely warned Himself away from the open dressing room area and we started perusing.
Damn if this isn't a fun place to dig. The prices are fantastic! Another staffer directed us towards "the younger styles" (which include two lines of organic cotton dresses and jumpers) and I had a great time picking through cute dresses, tees, and tops. Prices ranged from $12-$40 and they also had a nice assortment of scarves and bags. There was also a woman doing alterations on site which I liked. Though some of the "younger lines" carried teeny tiny sizes, I was also happy to find that generally there was variety in what they had available - and some of the more traditional lines on the floor offered great variety in sizing (and really didn't look "old" to me either).
I made mental notes about a few things to come back for when I was less pressed for time (and of course after I'd been paid, haha).
All in all I'm pretty glad that I was proven wrong about this place...and I'll most definitely be bringing my momma in here on her next visit up.
